Which Kluger Tow Bar Do You Need?

Toyota has kept the Kluger name across several very different generations, so match your build date to the product titles above:

• Kluger 11/2003–07/2007: rated to 1500kg towing capacity and 150kg ball weight.
• Kluger 08/2007–02/2014: rated to 2000kg towing capacity and 200kg ball weight.

Check Your Model Code: GSU50R and GSU55R

The 2007–2014 tow bar does not fit GSU50R or GSU55R models, which are the next-generation Kluger. Because the changeover happened in early 2014, a Kluger from around that time could be either generation, so don't choose a tow bar by year alone. Check the model code on your build plate or registration papers, or contact us with your vehicle details and we'll confirm the fit before you book.

The 7-Seater Payload Problem

The Kluger is usually towing with a full cabin, and that matters. Every passenger, pram, esky and bag counts against the vehicle's payload, and so does the weight on the tow ball. A Kluger loaded for a family holiday can reach its Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) well before the trailer reaches its rated limit.

In practice, that means checking your loaded ball weight, not just the trailer's total weight. A tow bar rated to 200kg ball weight doesn't mean a fully loaded Kluger can carry 200kg on the tow ball. Your vehicle, tow bar, tow ball and trailer all need to stay within the lowest rating in the setup.

Wiring and Electronics by Generation

Kluger trailer wiring changes between generations. The 2003–2007 model uses simpler wiring connected at the tail lights, while the 2007–2014 model needs a specific ECU and wiring harness so trailer lights work with the car's electronics without triggering fault codes. Our installers fit the correct harness and 7-pin socket for your Kluger.

Trailers over 750kg ATM need their own brakes. If your camper or caravan has electric brakes, we can fit an electric brake controller at the same time as your tow bar.

No. It doesn't fit GSU50R or GSU55R models, so check your model code before ordering, especially if your Kluger was built in early 2014.
